Creating a New Age version of Christianity?

Paul Smith

Here is the latest attack by arch debunker Paul Smith who spends so much time debunking this subject that it clearly must be a nice little earner by now.

For once Smith has managed to get the subject of his text into the title (a new age indeed) so no introduction from me as to what it is all about. Like most of his ilk he launches into Dan Brown's novel and immediately plays the ‘Mind, Body and Spirit' on the bookshelves in libraries and bookshops' gambit. Thus he hopes to alienate people immediately by attempting to associate this subject with what is generally considered the more esoteric New Age subjects. Whilst Old Age subjects like , destroying the temples and cities of the Canaanites, walking on water and turning water into wine (nice trick but what's the point?) are not considered to have anything to do with Mind Body and Spirit and therefore find themselves on other bookshelves deemed to be more worthy.

"Practice debunkery-by-association. Lump together all phenomena popularly deemed paranormal and suggest that their proponents and researchers speak with a single voice. In this way you can indiscriminately drag material across disciplinary lines or from one case to another to support your views as needed. For example, if a claim having some superficial similarity to the one at hand has been (or is popularly assumed to have been) exposed as fraudulent, cite it as if it were an appropriate example. Then put on a gloating smile, lean back in your armchair and just say "I rest my case."

Let's take the comments bit by bit.

"and their sheer inability to produce historical evidence to back-up their desired beliefs does not deter them in the slightest"

Oh Dear! - Houses - glass - stones - throw - shouldn't.

Erm! Historical independent evidence that Jesus ever existed? Have we got any hope of anyone producing this after 2000 years of asking?

No Josephus said 'CHRIST' and Christ means the anointed one and there were hundreds of these in the first century CE. Eusebius was a proven liar.

Smith knows there is evidence but this "inability to produce historical evidence" is a nebulous statement that can be side stepped the instant it is challenged.

"If there is a Jesus Christ Bloodline existing in the present day – does it matter? Do these people wish to turn the direct descendant of Jesus Christ into the King of the World?"

I put this down to naivety on Smith's part. Then again maybe not.

See PROTOCOLS OF THE LEARNED ELDERS OF ZION

Particularly this one.

PROTOCOL No. 24

    1. I pass now to the method of confirming the dynastic roots of King David to the last strata of the earth.

    2. This confirmation will first and foremost be included in that which to this day has rested the force of conservatism by our learned elders of the conduct of the affairs of the world, in the directing of the education of thought of all humanity.

    3. Certain members of the seed of David will prepare the kings and their heirs, selecting not by right of heritage but by eminent capacities, inducting them into the most secret mysteries of the political, into schemes of government, but providing always that none may come to knowledge of the secrets. The object of this mode of action is that all may know that government cannot be entrusted to those who have not been inducted into the secret places of its art ....

    4. To these persons only will be taught the practical application of the aforenamed plans by comparison of the experiences of many centuries, all the observations on the politico-economic moves and social sciences - in a word, all the spirit of laws which have been unshakably established by nature herself for the regulation of the relations of humanity.

    5. Direct heirs will often be set aside from ascending the throne if in their time of training they exhibit frivolity, softness and other qualities that are the ruin of authority, which render them incapable of governing and in themselves dangerous for kingly office.

    6. Only those who are unconditionally capable for firm, even if it be to cruelty, direct rule will receive the reins of rule from our learned elders.

    7. In case of falling sick with weakness of will or other form of incapacity. kings must by law hand over the reins of rule to new and capable hands.

    8. The king's plan of action for the current moment, and all the more so for the future, will be unknown, even to those who are called his closest counsellors.

KING OF THE JEWS

    9. Only the king and the three who stood sponsor for him will know what is coming.

    10. In the person of the king who with unbending will is master of himself and of humanity all will discern as it were fate with its mysterious ways. None will know what the king wishes to attain by his dispositions, and therefore none will dare to stand across an unknown path.

    11. It is understood that the brain reservoir of the king must correspond in capacity to the plan of government it has to contain. It is for this reason that he will ascend the throne not otherwise than after examination of his mind by the aforesaid learned elders.

    12. That the people may know and love their king, it is indispensable for him to converse in the market-places with his people. This ensures the necessary clinching of the two forces which are now divided one from another by us by the terror.

    13. This terror was indispensable for us till the time comes for both these forces separately to fall under our influence.

    14. The king of the Jews must not be at the mercy of his passions, and especially of sensuality: on no side of his character must he give brute instincts power over his mind. Sensuality worse than all else disorganizes the capacities of the mind and clearness of views, distracting the thoughts to the worst and most brutal side of human activity.

    15. The prop of humanity in the person of the supreme lord of all the world of the holy seed of David must sacrifice to his people all personal inclinations.

    16. Our supreme lord must be of an exemplary irreproachable.

Signed by the representatives of Sion of the 33rd Degree.

A quick comment from me:

Why if this was an attempt to discredit the Jews would it speak of the 'King of the Jews' - Jesus, in such an exalted manner?

And why is the signature not 'Signed by the Jewish Elders' or some such?  Instead it alludes to Zionism and to Freemasonry, in particular Scottish Rite freemasonry.

Zionism is not specifically Jewish. See here

Surprise, surprise, the Protocols of Zion have also been deemed to be a fake and yet characters associated with Priory of Sion have also been associated with these documents. An argument against the notion that the Protocols are fake was written in the book Holy Blood & the Holy Grail and is repeated here. The Protocols of Zion was originally written in French, not Russian as some people think.

"originally formed in 1956 by Pierre Plantard and another individual as an organisation devoted to the cause of Low Cost Housing and attacking the planning developers of Annemasse (the town where Pierre Plantard lived during the 1950s), it"

Even the piece about the 1956 formation is incorrect. It was formed in 1955 and merely registered in 1956. What Smith doesn't tell you is that it wasn't specifically devoted to Low Cost Housing and attacking planning developers.

It has a constitution and was/is devoted to Historical study, particularly with regard to esoteric and Hermetic subjects.

Smith is obsessed with Plantard and the Priory of Sion. I've scanned Paul Smith's website and at no point does he mention an organisation called the Order of Sion or mention the title of this website. Ordre de la Rose Croix Veritas. Plantard is vindicated elsewhere on this website.

A excellent book has been recently released which goes into the fine details of this called The Sion Revelation by Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince and can be purchased here.

Dan Brown Argument 2
Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene

"The idea that there was a marriage between Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene that produced children only dates back to 1982 in the pseudo-historical book The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail by Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln"

A wholly incorrect statement. During the first showing of Wagner's Opera Parzival in 1882 Claude Debussy (named as a Priory of Sion Grand Master) said to a journalist that the Opera was about Jesus' marriage to Mary Magdalene. See Mary Magdalene

"The popularity of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail – a bestseller itself in 1982 – later inspired other authors to jump on the same bandwagon – Laurence Gardner, Margaret Starbird, Timothy Wallace-Murphy, Barbara Thiering and Tracy Twyman to name just a few – all of them having the inability to offer any historical evidence to substantiate their belief in the central theory that is found in The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail."

Smith glibly glosses over the fact that Barbara Thiering tucked away in the centre here, is actually DOCTOR Barbara Thiering a doctor of THEOLOGY achieving her PhD in 1973, who has studied the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Apocryphal gospels and the Gnostic gospels for over thirty years. She says quite unequivocally that not only was Jesus married to Mary THE Magdalene but they had not one child but three. First was a girl (born 33CE) and the second was a boy who became a celibate priest who did not marry and the third was another boy who did produce offspring. The firstborn boy is actually mentioned in Colossians 4:11  as Jesus Justus (Gais Gesu).

Another author mentioned Laurence Gardner (whom I personally met in 1982) actually names these children as Tamar (Greek Damaris: Palm Tree), same the river in Cornwall, England close to the ruined Tintagel Castle normally associated with King Arthur. First son, second child Jesus Justus, schooled in Caesarea he first moved to Provence, France with his great uncle Joseph of Arimathea. They later moved to the West of England (Dumnonia) which is Cornwall, home of the Tamar river and Tintagel Castle, Devon and Somerset, home of Glastonbury Abbey. Glastonbury was the only place in England that was spared taxes by the Normans in the Doomsday book, no reason has ever been given for why they were considered special accept to say that the place had religious significance.

This is off topic but there is a well known song by William Blake which asks the question:

And did those feet In ancient time walk upon England's mountains green

And was the Holy Lamb of God on England's pleasant pastures seen?

Who was this 'Holy Lamb of God' that Blake is referring to, whilst he builds his new Jerusalem (Sion) in England's green and pleasant land? The young Firstborn son of Jesus perhaps? The Somerset village of Priddy has a tradition linked with this.

The third child was another boy called Josephes from whom one line of the Fisher Kings descended.

Smith talks about there being no evidence, actually what he means is there's no proof, but then there wouldn't be, almost all of this has been suppressed by the church.

Several stories however constitute EVIDENCE for this hypothesis.

  •  ev·i·dence
    n.
  1. A thing or things helpful in forming a conclusion or judgment:
  2. Something indicative; an outward sign:
  3. Law. The documentary or oral statements and the material objects admissible as testimony in a court of law.
  •  proof
    n.
  1. The evidence or argument that compels the mind to accept an assertion as true.
  2.
    1. The validation of a proposition by application of specified rules, as of induction or deduction, to assumptions, axioms, and sequentially derived conclusions.
    2. A statement or argument used in such a validation.
  3.
    1. Convincing or persuasive demonstration
    2. The state of being convinced or persuaded by consideration of evidence.

Revelation 12:1 - 17 Chronicles the whole story of Mary's flight to France with her child.

There are the Grail legends which clearly allude to a story that has been suppressed. The earliest version of Le Seynt Graal for instance comes from the year 717CE which was written by a Welsh hermit called Waleran. It was from Waleran that the enigmatic statement (repeated in the Perlesvaus ) comes:

Here is the book of thy Descent; Here begins the book of the Sangreal.

Waleran alludes to a Jesus bloodline. Waleran's writings are not public domain.

Legend and tradition is what arises when the truth has been suppressed. That the Holy Roman church of the middle ages was in the business of suppressing other ideas than their own is now beyond doubt. Troubadours in particular were despised by the Holy Roman Church because they placed the idea of womanhood on a pedestal of veneration, contrary to Catholic Doctrine. They also spread stories that were considered heretical like the prospect of Jesus' marriage and the Messianic lineage known as the Grail tradition.

In the Gospel of Philip, Mary Magdalene is Fallen Wisdom that is barren

Their "source material" is usually selective in nature and distorted out of context to promote their various arguments. For example, these writers always omit the fact that in The Golden Legend by Jacobus Voraigne Mary Magdalene the traveller to Marseilles is presented as the wife of Saint John. And in the Gnostic Gospel of Philip, Mary Magdalene is depicted as the personification of Fallen Wisdom that is barren in nature."

Oh yes and where exactly does your source material come from if it's not selective? Hello pan meet kettle, kettle this is pan.

This is deliberate attempt at deception. The Gospel of Philip says that it is barren wisdom because her wisdom is no longer being taught.

Notice Smith doesn't go too deeply into the French Legends here. In particular Saint Maximin La Sainte Baume

Interesting picture as you enter the Grotto at Sante Baume.

Incidentally Sainte Baume means Holy Balsam a direct allusion to when Mary Magdalene anoints the feet of Jesus and wipes them with her hair, a signally erotic act which is not only depicted in the church of Rennes le chateau in a stained glass window but is also the subject of the second parchment.

And then there's Vezelay

"So, whatever the future holds for the belief in the marriage of Jesus Christ to Mary Magdalene that produced children – taken seriously by Dan Brown – the certainty that exists is that none of this is based on historical fact. It represents desired belief and absolutely nothing else.

Quite a lot Mr Smith because despite the unprecedented media onslaught you still appear to be losing the argument.

The public has a choice.

Water into Wine. Walking on Water. Born of a Virgin

OR

Jesus performed the normal functions that are required by a male heterosexual adult.

You takes your pick, as they say.
